Kahama

KAHAMA DIOCESE

Located south of Lake Victoria, Kahama sits at a vital crossroads connecting Tanzania with neighboring countries like Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The local economy is heavily driven by agriculture (cotton, maize, and paddy) It is a rapidly growing, vibrant "Gold Town" in north-western Tanzania's Shinyanga Region, Known for nearby gold mining (Buzwagi mine), it is experiencing rapid infrastructure development, including road upgrades funded by the World Bank. As of August 2022, the population of Kahama District was 453,654.  

Kahama is a New mission to us.  We were invited there by the Bishop in 2025 and three of our Sisters began their mission on the 15th September 2025.   Sr. M. Matilde Shirima is in charge of San Pio Hospital Maganzo and Sr. Anastazia is the Secretary.  Sr. Rosamaria is in charge of the Parish Montessori School and is assisted by 2 lay staff teachers and 2 auxiliaries. She also helps with Sacristy duties in the parish and twice daily helps the local children.
